The Trailers to Expect During the Super Bowl

The Trailers to Expect During the Super Bowl

The 2021 movie schedule is shaping up to be very similar to 2020's. Throughout the pandemic, movie releases have been pushed back, and now we are entering the second round of delays. Hopefully, once we get a majority of the U.S. vaccinated, we can see more release dates set in stone.

With the Super Bowl happening tonight, people are expecting to see companies paying top dollar for advertisements. Usually, this is the perfect opportunity for the biggest movies to show off. Yet this year, since movies are in a state of limbo, not many studios are willing to start promoting their films only for them to face delays again.

Movies may be in limbo, but streaming services continue to dominate. That being said, here are the movie and television trailers you may see during the big game.

DISNEY

Aside from a likely Disney+ sizzle reel, I don't think the House of Mouse feels confident about promoting any of their theatrical releases at this time. The only trailers that might be released outside of the sizzle reel are Marvel Studios' 'Falcon and the Winter Soldier,' 'Loki,' and 'Black Widow' (only if they decide to release it simultaneously on Disney+). We might also see a 'Raya and the Last Dragon' trailer, as it's Disney's second attempt at Disney Plus Premier Access.

WARNER BROS.

Similar to Disney, Warner Bros. will likely release a sizzle reel featuring all their upcoming films being released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. In addition to the sizzle reel, the studio may have a trailer for ‘Zack Snyder's Justice League,' as its release is only a few weeks away.

NETFLIX

Last month, Netflix teased the world with its content lineup for 2021. With so much content, Netflix could choose any of its original films and television shows for a spot in the Super Bowl.

UNIVERSAL

Universal won't have as big a presence compared to previous years. One confirmed appearance is M. Night Shyamalan's newest film 'Old,' which will be shown during the game. The director has been teasing the trailer on social media all month. Besides 'Old,' many of the studio's tentpole films will likely be missing out due to the fear of delays.

OTHER

While we know Paramount+ is supposed to have an ad for the Super Bowl, we don't have details from other studios. Amazon is most likely to release a 'Coming 2 America' trailer (after spending $125 million on distribution rights), and Sony may surprise us with a first look at 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage.'

Super Bowl LV airs tonight, February 7th, on CBS.
